For the current 2018/19 winter term, the university continues to report high student numbers: a total of 7,329 young people are enrolled at the university.
There are currently 7,329 young people studying on 25 bachelor’s and 11 master’s degree programmes at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences. During the same period last year, the number of students stood at 7,222. This represents an increase of approximately 1.5 per cent. In previous years, the growth rates had been higher. The university was originally designed to accommodate 5,000 students. “For this reason, we have agreed this year to focus more on consolidation in order to maintain the university’s high standards in the long term,” commented Professor Dr Georg Hauck, Vice-President for Human Resources, Organisational Development and Diversity, on the results.
The figures demonstrate just how popular and highly regarded the university continues to be. Nearly 50 per cent of students now come from abroad. The proportion of students from other EU countries stands at just over five per cent. Overall, the international student body has grown by almost seven per cent. “No other major university in Germany comes even remotely close to this figure,” said Professor Hauck.
This international character is also reflected in the enrolment figures for the 2018/2019 winter semester. This year, nearly 800 students from abroad enrolled – a figure approximately 5 per cent higher than the previous year’s level. The winter semester began with a total of 1,596 enrolments. “The fact that this figure is slightly below last year’s result is not only part of a nationwide trend amongst universities but should also be seen as the initial effect of our planned consolidation,” explains Professor Hauck.
