The joint project run by Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences and Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences offers a counselling service for students who are unsure about their studies. With the launch of the website, those affected now have a central tool at their disposal as a first point of contact.
Doubts about one’s studies can take many forms, ranging from uncertainty about whether to continue with one’s degree, to thoughts of changing subject or university, right through to considering dropping out altogether and taking a different path. ‘Next Step Niederrhein’ offers support and guidance in all these situations through its counselling services. In neutral and confidential coaching sessions, those affected are guided through the process of addressing these doubts. These sessions are tailored to the students and their individual concerns, and actively involve collaboration with the universities’ counselling services as well as other network partners from the regional labour market and the business sector (Jobcentre, Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Chamber of Crafts, Economic Development Agency, etc.). As a result, personalised coaching can ultimately lead to a decision to change degree programme, or to end one’s studies and, for example, take up a different form of training or a job.
Under the three main headings – ‘Continue’, ‘Switch’ and ‘Drop out’ – interested visitors to the new website will find, amongst other things, suggestions for reflecting on their own situation, helpful tips, regional contact details and counselling services, up-to-date information and relevant dates. The website is also well worth a look for companies that have recognised – or would like to recognise – students who are unsure about their studies as a potential asset.
The project’s services are aimed at students at both universities and are free of charge. The coaching sessions at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences are offered at both campuses in both German and English.
