The next event in the Wednesday Academy series – entitled ‘Europeans for 90 minutes. Does football change our view of Europe?’ – will focus on European football.
Everyone knows stories about ‘football wars’, ‘symbolic victories’ or ‘national rivalries’. Football thus presents itself primarily as an arena of competition and national distinction. But can’t football also transcend national borders at the same time? When clubs, featuring a host of European players, regularly compete against other top European teams, whilst fans enjoy travelling to away matches across the border? In a discussion drawing on the latest findings from the “EUFoot” research project, Professor Dr Alexander Brand, Professor of Political Science specialising in International Relations, and Dr Regina Weber, a research assistant on the “EUFoot” project, will explore these questions.
The lecture will take place on 19 June 2019 at 6.00 pm on the Kleve campus, Marie-Curie-Straße 1, in Building 02, Room 02 01 017 (Seminar Room 5).
As part of the Wednesday Academy, current topics are presented in an engaging manner by speakers from academia and professional practice, examined from a theoretical perspective and discussed in a large group. The lecture series is aimed primarily at the general public, but also at students and teaching staff at the university. Attendance is free of charge and no prior registration is required.
