Eighteen students from the university took part in the ‘From idea to prototype’ summer school from 1 to 3 August. The workshop served as preparation for this year’s Best Idea Cup 2018.
During the three-day summer school, the students learnt how to come up with a business idea and successfully turn it into an initial prototype using the Business Model Canvas. Four groups of students gave free rein to their creativity and developed a wide range of business ideas, including ‘Smart Clothing’ – a multifunctional jacket – as well as an app or a service for low-cost removals. The next workshop in the Lower Rhine Innovation and Start-up Initiative, ‘Powerful Pitch – How to sell an idea or a product’, will take place on 5 September. It will prepare aspiring student entrepreneurs to present the ideas and projects they have developed in a convincing manner.
Every year, students from all faculties are invited to develop innovative business ideas for the Best Idea Cup. The three best ideas will be recognised during the Academic Year Celebration on 2 October 2018. In addition, other ideas developed by students will be presented using prototypes, posters or other marketing materials as part of the supporting programme. Alongside attractive cash prizes, there is also a free start-up coaching programme to be won. If you have any questions about the Summer School or the Best Idea Cup, please do not hesitate to contact the Centre for Research, Innovation and Transfer (innovation@hochschule-rhein-waal.de).
