Gender equality in religion and philosophy (News)

Through academic reflection, a panel discussion featuring representatives from various religious traditions, and a range of workshops, the conference aims to address precisely these questions. The event will open with a keynote address entitled ‘Religion and Gender Orders’. The subsequent panel discussion, featuring representatives from religious organisations and associations, will address the topic of ‘Gender equality in religion and worldviews’. In addition, conference participants will have the opportunity to take part in a total of five workshops: ‘Talking about religion and gender using the Mahloquet conflict resolution method’; ‘Emancipation and freedom of religion: two sides of the same coin?’; ‘Two steps forward and one back – the long journey of women in the Protestant Church’; ‘Changing Gender Norms in Islam: Between Reason and Revelation’; ‘Queer and Religious!?’ The programme thus sets a tone that actively encourages participation. And that is precisely the intention.

The event will take place on 30 June 2018 from 9.30 am to 5.00 pm at the Kleve campus of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Marie-Curie-Straße 1, Lecture Theatre Centre, ground floor, Room 01 EG 005 (Lecture Theatre 1). The conference is aimed at the general public as well as members of the university. Attendance is free of charge. Advance registration is required via gender@ekir.de or by telephone on 0211 4562680. The registration deadline for members of the public who are not affiliated with the university is 25 June 2018.
