The next event as part of the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences’ Children’s University will take place on 21 January 2015. In his lecture ‘Water – a special substance’, Andreas Kaudelka, Managing Director of Stadtwerke Kamp-Lintfort, explains in a child-friendly way what happens before our water comes out of the tap and after we’ve pulled the plug out of the bath.
Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 16 January 2015: When it comes to water, Andreas Kaudelka is undoubtedly an expert: after all, his municipal utility company ensures the daily water supply in Kamp-Lintfort.
But can the managing director also teach children about water? He can – and he’ll be proving just that at the first Children’s University lecture of 2015 at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. He aims to introduce his young audience to the topic of water in a child-friendly and easy-to-understand way: where it comes from, what happens to it, and why clean water is so important.
Together with qualified engineers Roswitha Maurer and Cathrien Schulte-Südhoff, he will explain the unique properties of water through exciting experiments.
A short quiz awaits the young students: How much water do we use for personal hygiene, cleaning or the garden? Where does Kamp-Lintfort’s drinking water come from, and how does it reach our homes? How much water does Kamp-Lintfort need, and how much does it cost? How can water be disinfected using light? Or: if you were to bottle all the water your body contains, how many 1-litre bottles do you think you could fill?
The Children’s University
Through the Children’s University, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences offers children aged between 8 and 12 the opportunity to develop a passion for the world of science through lectures (45 minutes) specially designed for them. Just like proper students, they are given student ID cards. They sit in lecture theatres and can ask real professors all sorts of questions. The big difference from a proper degree course is that there are no exams to sit.

Children keen to study at the Children’s University can attend either all or just individual lectures. The current lecture timetable for the Children’s University can be viewed on the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences website at www.hochschule-rhein-waal.de. No registration is required for the lectures. Admission is free. All events start at 5.15 pm.
