Thanks to the commitment of businesses in the Lower Rhine region, a total of 48 high-achieving students at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences were awarded a Germany Scholarship during the 2014/2015 winter semester. To thank the scholarship providers for their support, the university’s three friends’ associations hosted a scholarship recipients’ and donors’ dinner in the canteen on the Kleve campus.
Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 10 December 2014: Dr Stefan Dietzfelbinger, Chairman of the Board of the Förderverein Hochschule Rhein-Waal e.V., welcomed those present on behalf of the organisers and expressed his delight at the strong commitment shown by regional businesses: “The scholarship donors share a common aim: to support students who stand out through outstanding academic achievement or exceptional commitment. In doing so, they recognise excellence that will benefit the region’s future prospects.”
Through the Scholarship Recipients and Donors’ Dinner, the three Friends’ Associations also express their gratitude, on behalf of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, for the commitment of the scholarship providers, which enables a total of 48 students to be supported. In addition to financial support, Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences and the supporting associations attach particular importance to strengthening the links between the scholarship providers and their scholarship holders, who represent potential future talent for the region.
Over a buffet and drinks, the scholarship recipients held interesting discussions with the business representatives and representatives of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences in attendance about their studies, career aspirations and professional ambitions, and forged new contacts with companies in the Lower Rhine region. In addition, they were honoured by the university management for their outstanding achievements during a ceremonial presentation of certificates and received a certificate from Federal Minister of Education Johanna Wanka, presented by Prof. Dr Marie-Louise Klotz, President of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
Students with very good academic results can apply for a Germany Scholarship, regardless of their parents’ income. The monthly grant of 150 euros, which is raised by Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, its support associations, private sponsors, companies or institutions, is then matched by the federal government. In 2014, a total of 86,400 euros was donated by private scholarship providers. Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences was thus able to distribute a total of 172,800 euros in scholarship funds to its 48 top students.
The role of the Friends’ Associations is to support the university in recruiting potential donors. The successful evening, which featured many in-depth discussions and new contacts, demonstrated that there is more at stake here than simply the funding of the scholarships.
