On Thursday 20 November, the cross-border event ‘International Pressure Cooker Day’ took place for the second time at the Viller Mühle in Goch. The event centred on around 25 students from Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Eindhoven University of Technology and the Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen, who, over the course of a single day, developed innovative solutions to current challenges faced by companies and institutions in the German-Dutch border region.
Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 27 November 2014: On Thursday 20 November, the cross-border event “International Pressure Cooker Day” took place for the second time at the Viller Mühle in Goch. The focus was on around 25 students from Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Eindhoven University of Technology and the Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen, who, in the space of a single day, developed innovative solutions to current challenges faced by companies and institutions in the German-Dutch border region.
The aim was for tomorrow’s professionals to learn how to organise their work efficiently and produce high-quality results under challenging conditions and tight deadlines. In addition to the language barrier and their differing academic backgrounds, the six international student teams were deliberately placed under intense time pressure. Following a brief introductory session in the morning, each team was briefed on their specific challenge by a company. Creative coaches facilitated the day’s proceedings and provided guidance on developing business ideas. That very evening, the students had to present their idea to the client and a four-member jury in a short pitch.
The winners were four technically skilled students who had developed a concept to reduce odour and smoke emissions during the coffee roasting process. Following the award ceremony, the jury announced that the winning team would have the opportunity to test and further develop their idea in collaboration with the company. The “International Pressure Cooker Day” was organised by Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences as part of the INTERREG IV A project “Rhein-Waal Knowledge Alliance 2020”. The event also formed part of “Start-up Week Germany 2014”.
