As part of a work placement with Yvonne Terilte-Rübo, the Equal Opportunities Officer for the City of Kleve, four students from the Faculty of Society and Economics at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences developed a ‘Student Guide to Social Issues’. This guide provides students with a quick overview of the support and advice services available in the Kleve district.
Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 5 December 2014: As part of a joint project with Yvonne Tertile-Rübo, the City of Kleve’s Equal Opportunities Officer, students Anica Waldendorf, Jana Hefner, Vania Faraj and Carolin Witjes, from the ‘Gender and Diversity’ programme in the Faculty of Society and Economics at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, examined the tension between the students’ personally challenging circumstances and the academic requirements of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
The newly developed Student Guide serves as a compilation of important contacts and points of contact for social and, above all, personal matters. Particularly at the start of their studies, students often face specific challenges such as finding their way around a new town or country, looking for accommodation, making new friends or organising their studies. “The new Student Guide is designed to enable students to quickly and easily find and contact social support and counselling services in Kleve,” explains Yvonne Tertilte-Rübo, Equal Opportunities Officer for the City of Kleve.
What options are available to students in the event of an unwanted pregnancy? Which addiction counselling centres in the Kleve district can students turn to? Which emergency numbers can be dialled in the event of violence or sexual assault? The results of this collaboration have now been compiled in the form of a “Student Guide for Social Issues” and made available as a resource for students. “With this guide, we want to help students seek help in emergencies or seemingly hopeless situations and provide them with a form of support,” says Tertilte-Rübo. “We hope that this Student Guide will be of great help to students.”
