Under the theme ‘Humour is when you still… ?’, the next Studium Generale lecture will explore reflections and research findings on a pedagogy of cheerfulness. Prof. Dr Heike Helen Weinbach, Professor of Education specialising in early childhood didactics, will give a talk on Tuesday 18 November at 6.00 pm on the Kamp-Lintfort campus of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Friedrich-Heinrich-Allee 25, Building 1, 2nd floor, Room 01 02 105 in Kamp-Lintfort. Attendance is free of charge.
Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 14 November 2014: For some years now, humour has been regarded as a serious subject of theoretical study and research. As a result, the scope of humour has expanded from the comedy of everyday life, stand-up comedy and clowns to include therapeutic and educational applications. Humour is regarded as an intellectual activity, a kind of cognitive cleansing. Changes in perspective and coping strategies are supported by interactions involving humour.
Whilst there are some challenging aspects to humour-based behaviour, this lecture will focus primarily on the positive effects of humour. Among other things, it will present the findings of a study on the humour-based behaviour of children aged two to three in the context of nursery schools. The lecture will then explore ways in which humour can be learnt and encouraged.
The lecture forms part of the Studium Generale programme. The lecture series is aimed at the general public, as well as students, lecturers and staff at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, and presents current topics in a way that is relevant to everyday life and informative. The series also offers the opportunity to engage with current issues. “We invite everyone, regardless of age, to attend these fascinating lectures,” says the university’s President, Prof. Dr Marie-Louise Klotz. She also sees the programme as an opportunity to visit the university’s two campuses and the new buildings on them.
