Students from Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences visited the Pfeifer & Langen sugar factory in Appeldorn.

In December, students on the Bachelor’s degree programmes in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic Systems Engineering and Industrial Engineering at the Faculty of Technology and Bionics visited the Pfeifer & Langen sugar factory in Appeldorn as part of the ‘Fundamentals of Process Engineering’ module. With technical support from the plant manager, Mr Blecher, and the head of maintenance, Mr Schabbel, Ms Fischer von Mollard and Mr Zaiss explained the individual process steps – from sugar beet to white crystals – to the students in a presentation and during a tour of the factory. Prof. Joachim Gebel had previously covered these ‘unit operations’ in theory as part of his lecture, and the students were delighted to now see the theory put into practice.
