Seven runners from the university took part in this year’s 10th GeBeGe Company Run and North Rhine-Westphalia Championship for the first time. The women’s team secured first place in the North Rhine-Westphalia Championship in the ‘Large Companies – Women’s Category’.
A total of 1,237 runners – in company teams of three or more people or as individual runners – took part in this year’s corporate sports event. The five-kilometre route took participants from the Rheinpark through Emmerich town centre and along the Rhine promenade back to the starting point. The university’s first participation was already a great success: Sarah Pullich (22:03 mins), Heike Holtappel (22:40 mins) and Steffi Wiedemann (26:24 mins) took first place in the North Rhine-Westphalia Championship in the ‘Large enterprises (more than 250 employees)’ category in the women’s class. A total of 15 teams had entered this category. However, the performance of the second HSRW team was also impressive: with a total time of 1:21:39 hours, Claas van Koeverden (26:32 mins), Sandra Neumann (27:23 mins) and Jörg Sippel (27:44 mins) jointly took 15th place in the state championship’s “Large Enterprises >250 Mixed Class”. A total of 65 running teams competed in this category this year. All finishers received an anniversary medal at the end of the race.
Sarah Pullich, who is responsible for the administrative support of university sports and workplace health management (BGM) at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, was delighted with her colleagues’ performance. “We are delighted that we were able to bring a state championship title to the university on our very first attempt. However, we are no less proud of the personal bests achieved and the other victories in the age group classifications. Of course, the focus was also very much on having fun and enjoying the camaraderie amongst colleagues,” said Pullich. The university’s Workplace Health Management team plans to take part in the company run again next year and is already offering interested staff a range of courses to help them work towards this shared goal.
