Germany Scholarship at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences

In the 2020/2021 funding year, outstanding students at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences will once again be eligible for support through the Germany Scholarship. 56 students from the university’s four faculties will receive financial and non-material support. Even during this largely digital semester, students and sponsors are still able to come together; however, due to the current situation, the annual scholarship dinner has had to be cancelled for this funding period.

This year, scholarships such as the Deutschlandstipendium are particularly important. Students are struggling with the effects of the pandemic and, in some cases, are facing financial difficulties. “Supporting our students is of particular importance this year. In this regard, I am delighted that, thanks to the outstanding support from industry, foundations and associations in the region, numerous Deutschlandstipendium grants have once again been awarded to talented and committed students,” said University President Dr Oliver Locker-Grütjen. This year, 56 students at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences are receiving funding through the Deutschlandstipendium.

The Germany Scholarship enables Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences to support students who achieve very good academic results and also demonstrate particular academic or social commitment. This funding is of great importance for academic success, as it allows scholarship holders to concentrate fully on their studies. They receive 300 euros a month for one year. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research covers half of this amount; the university raises the other half from industry, foundations and associations in the region. Thanks to contributions from a total of 23 scholarship sponsors, 97,200 euros have been raised during the current funding period, meaning that Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences has a total of 194,400 euros at its disposal to support the scholarship recipients.

Under normal circumstances, the Deutschlandstipendium is characterised in particular by the contact between the sponsors and the scholarship holders. This is because it is not only the financial support that is important; networking between the up-and-coming talents and the sponsors is also a key component of the programme. As this year’s scholarship dinner had to be cancelled due to the pandemic, the exchange will be organised on an individual basis between sponsors and scholarship recipients this year.
