Dressed in traditional academic gowns and accompanied by a programme of festive events, more than 100 graduates were given a ceremonial send-off in the Audimax on the Kleve campus.
Professor Jörg Petri – Vice-President for Student Affairs, Teaching and Academic Continuing Education – and Professor Dr.-Ing. Peter Kisters – Vice-President for Research, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer – congratulated the young graduates on their achievements and encouraged them as they embark on the next stage of their lives.
No fewer than four awards for outstanding achievement were presented during the ceremony. Julie Cremanns, a graduate of the Master’s programme in Health Sciences and Management (thesis topic: “Age Management: An analysis of measures to maintain the health of older male and female employees and the development of an age management concept”) from the Faculty of Life Sciences was honoured by the Unternehmerschaft Niederrhein e. V. with a prize of 1,000 euros. The Förderverein Hochschule Rhein-Waal e. V. recognised the achievements of Catalin Dascaliuc, a Bachelor’s graduate from the Mechanical Engineering programme (thesis topic: “A comprehensive study on gearbox fault diagnosis based on vibration analysis”), also with a prize worth 1,000 euros.
The Dr Peter Sommer and Dr Paul Bösken-Diebels Prize was awarded for the first time. The prize sponsors personally presented the awards to the graduates of the Faculty of Technology and Bionics. Dr Sommer honoured Jay-Pradipkumar Leuva for his outstanding final thesis on the topic “Process Development for the Oxidation of Copper Alloys used in Bonds with Insulating Materials”. This thesis focuses on the development of a process for the oxidation of copper alloys in combination with insulating materials – a topic with great future potential. Dr Bösken-Diebels commended the thesis entitled “Generative design: An innovative product development concept for aircraft components” by Srujan Prakash Shivanna. The thesis explores an innovative product development concept for aircraft components.
The joint graduation ceremony for the Faculties of Technology and Bionics and Life Sciences was chaired by Professor Dr William Megill, Professor of Bionics specialising in sensor technology and robotics, together with Professor Dr Peter Simon, Professor of Organic Chemistry/Polymer Chemistry. At the Faculty of Society and Economics, Professor Heike Helen Weinbach, Professor of Education specialising in early childhood education, led the programme.
