At a joint press conference held yesterday at the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, senior city officials, the business development agency and the university presented the results of the study.
Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 5 December 2013: The analysis is an empirical study assessing the importance attached to, and satisfaction with, location factors in the city of Kleve amongst local businesses. At a joint press conference held yesterday at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, senior city officials, the business development agency and the university presented the findings of the study.
The analysis, which was supervised by Prof. Dr Jakob Lempp, Professor of Political Science specialising in International Relations at the Faculty of Society and Economics, revealed that, above all, the high quality of life, the proximity to the Netherlands, the low cost of living and the healthy mix of industries are regarded as important and well-established economic conditions.
Alongside these four specific locational advantages, however, areas for improvement were also identified: in particular, businesses would like to see an increase in internet speeds, a motorway link – which is still lacking – and better ways of addressing the growing challenge of attracting well-qualified specialists and skilled workers to Kleve.
Kleve is now being promoted more actively on the strength of its favourable economic location advantages; however, further potential must be harnessed to make Kleve even more attractive for successful business operations. Initial ideas and concepts (e.g. the establishment of a ‘Kleve Transport Links Initiative Group’) are already being developed.
“We are, of course, delighted with the positive assessment our businesses have given the town. And the latest economic data – such as employment density, the centrality index and the demand for commercial land, etc. – demonstrate the high dynamism and success of Kleve as a business location. Nevertheless, we must not, of course, rest on our laurels now, but must continue to build on the location’s strengths and systematically address the areas for improvement that have been identified. The study provides an excellent basis for this,” says Dr Rasch.
