A portrait of a zdi heroine

Phyllis Ndugire, who heads the zdi centre cleverMINT, which is affiliated with the university, is one of four women featured in a profile published online by the zdi network. In the ‘zdi Heroines’ series, she explains how she came to study engineering herself and why she is particularly keen to inspire young women to take an interest in STEM subjects.

The former student of the Faculty of Technology and Bionics is now a PhD student and, as a zdi coordinator, has developed a wide range of activities for school pupils in the region. Boys and girls regularly visit the Faculty of Technology and Bionics and the Faculty of Life Sciences to gain an insight into various STEM subjects, carry out experiments in laboratories, and solder, programme and test their own ideas in workshops.
