The workshops explored questions relating to business start-ups, self-employment and start-ups, such as ‘What steps are involved in setting up a business?’ and ‘What potential does digital marketing hold for start-ups?’. The iCONDU SDG simulation game ‘Sustain 2030’, facilitated by Carina Heyer, a sustainability strategy consultant, focused on navigating the complexities of sustainability. In this simulation game, participants spent an afternoon exploring the direct impact of business decisions on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across various scenarios. It became clear that sustainable transformation requires a holistic approach, teamwork and new, creative ideas.
In the workshop on self-discovery and future planning – a particular highlight of Start-up Week – participants learnt to understand their skills, strengths and personality, enabling them to define their own individual path towards achieving their career goals. In addition, students interested in starting a business once again had the opportunity this year to discuss their in-depth questions on all matters relating to tax and business registration with Holger Schnapka, the start-up adviser at the Startercenter NRW of the Lower Rhine Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
Students on the Bachelor’s programme in International Business Administration at the Faculty of Communication and Environment demonstrated their creativity by presenting their business ideas in the form of posters. The posters were assessed by a jury and awarded prizes.
“As part of Start-up Week Lower Rhine, the ‘StartGlocal’ team has once again organised a varied and interesting start-up week. Following the ‘Make an Impact Day’ in September 2023 and the ‘ZukunftsLab Niederrhein’ in October 2023, the innovative potential of the university and the region has once again been demonstrated, and we intend to build on this further,” said Dr Gerhard Heusipp, Head of the ZFIT at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
