For 15 years, Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences in Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort has been enriching the higher education landscape in North Rhine-Westphalia with innovative, international and interdisciplinary degree programmes. Its strength lies in combining academic study, practical experience and research. Its 15th anniversary is a cause for celebration, and the university warmly invites students, local residents and members of the university community to join in the celebrations.
The varied programme will take place in four colour-coded event zones along the Spoy Canal. With its large campus stage, the Blue Zone will become a dance zone. Here, Jacob Beautemps will host the programme from 2.00 pm. He is known as a science YouTuber and researcher with a talent for making future-oriented topics and science accessible. On stage, the professors’ band Orange Green, the student band Sons of Ham and the cover band Hörbar will set the mood. There will also be a cookery show and interviews with students. From 7.00 pm, DJ Maroox will kick off the evening. The mobile band Speedos will entertain the festival grounds with acoustic music and an entertaining show.
In the Green, Red and Orange zones, the university will become a hub for learning and entertainment, featuring a mix of laboratory tours, cultural performances and interactive stands. Students will be showcasing their numerous clubs and societies and inviting visitors to have a chat. Teams from the university administration will also be on hand, offering a fascinating insight into the HSRW technical centre, an introduction to the secrets of application photography and much more. The faculties and departments will bring a feast for the senses to life. As well as tasting honey from the university’s bees and exploring the scent trail, visitors can make vegan milk alternatives at the food technology centre. With topics such as agroforestry, the festival grounds become a hub for sustainability. Furthermore, torch soldering, rocket building, go-kart racing and bionic robots offer a glimpse into the future of science.
The canteen terrace is the perfect place to chat with students from all over the world, as guests can speak to tutors from the Welcome Centre in many different languages, try out the language tandem scheme or have fun with the student advisory service.
From 2.25 pm, the legendary Schwanenritter Race gets underway, finally returning for its eighth edition after a five-year hiatus. Following the starting signal on the main campus stage, anyone interested can watch the twelve teams at work building their boats and, from 4.00 pm, cheer on the ‘Schwanenritter’ in the harbour basin as they race to see who can cross the Spoy Canal in their self-built boats.
Each event zone offers a wide range of activities for children designed to spark creativity and curiosity, including face painting featuring fairy-tale characters, a bouncy castle and a garden treasure hunt. A selection of summery culinary delights will also be on offer.
In addition, the history of HSRW will be brought to life through photographic retrospectives at various locations across the campus; under the theme ‘How a granary became a storehouse of knowledge’, for example, these will commemorate the construction of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
