On 6 and 7 August, StartGlocal organised the ‘Summer School – From Idea to Prototype’. The workshop gave participants the opportunity to turn their business ideas into tangible prototypes. They were guided by Marcel Heine, an expert in project management and business development.
Day 1 – Brainstorming and idea generation
The first day began with an introduction to the topic. The brainstorming sessions that followed inspired the participants to develop and refine their business ideas through group work. These collaborative sessions laid the foundations for the work on the second day.
Day 2 – Developing business models and prototypes
On the second day, the groups worked on developing business models and simple prototypes, using the Business Model Canvas as a guide. The first group developed ‘Local Bite’ – an online platform that connects travellers with local hosts to offer an authentic local experience, including accommodation, meals and sightseeing tours. The second group worked on a concept for a low-cost aquatic research vehicle capable of venturing into the deep sea and collecting data for researchers.
Results and Certification
At the end of the workshop, the participants presented their projects and received feedback from Marcel Heine. All participants were awarded a certificate of attendance recognising the skills they had acquired during the workshop.
The ‘StartGlocal Summer School – From Idea to Prototype’ enabled participants to develop their business ideas in a practical way. In the process, they acquired important skills such as entrepreneurial thinking, creativity, innovation, and the ability to engage in dialogue and resolve conflicts. In this way, StartGlocal supports entrepreneurial activities and the promotion of innovation at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
