The next lecture in the Studium Generale series will examine the social functions of gossip from a psychological perspective. Prof. Dr Freda-Marie Hartung, Professor of Personality Psychology and Aptitude Assessment at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, will give a lecture on Tuesday 2 June 2015 at 6 pm on the Kamp-Lintfort campus of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 29 May 2015: Gossip – that is, talking about other people – is a recurring theme in human communication. Although talking about other people often carries negative connotations, particularly in everyday life, psychological research regards gossip as a means of obtaining valuable social information. This lecture will examine and explain the social functions of gossip from a psychological perspective.
The lecture forms part of the Studium Generale programme. The programme is aimed at the general public as well as students, lecturers and staff at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, and presents current topics in a way that is relevant to everyday life and informative. “We warmly invite anyone interested to attend the fascinating lectures as part of the Studium Generale programme,” says the University’s President, Dr Heide Naderer. “The lecture series offers the chance to engage with current issues.
