On 23 April, school pupils will have the opportunity to visit Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences as part of Girls’ Day and Boys’ Day. On this ‘Future Day’, girls and boys can find out about degree programmes and careers that they tend not to choose very often. The university thus offers an ideal opportunity to gain a wide-ranging insight into various careers.
Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 10 April 2015: On Girls’ Day and Boys’ Day, school pupils have the opportunity to find out more about higher education and the world of work, and to discover their interests. This year, the nationwide careers guidance day for girls and boys takes place on 23 April. The aim is for young people to broaden their usual perspective and take a closer look at sectors and job roles that, at first glance, are not typically associated with their gender.
Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences is also taking part in this year’s Girls’ Day and Boys’ Day at its Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort campuses, with the aim of introducing pupils to a world of diverse topics and career fields previously unknown to them: For example, the girls will be introduced to the fascination of the natural sciences and technology, whilst the boys will explore issues relating to early years education or health. In addition to general information about studying and life at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, exciting hands-on activities and projects are designed to spark the pupils’ curiosity and interest. To this end, age-appropriate talks and small-scale experiments are on offer.
“On this Future Day, girls and boys have the opportunity to gain an insight into completely new fields, try things out in a playful way and get answers to their questions. We hope that the pupils will take away plenty of inspiration for their future from this day and we look forward to their visit,” says Prof. Dr Anja Freifrau von Richthofen, Vice-President for Studies, Teaching and Continuing Education at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
The nationwide Girls’ Day and Boys’ Day takes place annually. The aim of ‘Future Day’ is to raise awareness amongst girls and boys from Year 5 onwards about new subject areas, apprenticeships, universities and research centres. For this reason, it is primarily companies, organisations and institutions where either women or men are under-represented that open their doors.
Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences is taking part in Girls’ Day for the sixth time and in Boys’ Day for the fourth time. There are now more than 5,000 students from over 100 different countries who have chosen this research-intensive university specialising in the social sciences and technical disciplines, as it enables them to gain qualifications for forward-looking career fields.
