Students from Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences visited the Welding Research and Training Centre in Duisburg.
Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 16 February 2016: Cars, building façades, mobile phones – none of these essential items of everyday life would exist without welding techniques. SLV Duisburg specialises in welding and offers an unrivalled range of equipment for welding, soldering and thermal spraying. Students in the Faculty of Engineering, in particular, have the opportunity here to gain more practical experience. Accordingly, Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences organises monthly excursions to SLV. This month, too, students on the Master’s programmes in Bionics and Mechanical Engineering, led by Prof. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Raimund Sicking, were given the opportunity to visit one of Europe’s largest welding training centres.
The 65 participants on the excursion were warmly welcomed at the start by Prof. Reinhard Winkler of SLV in Duisburg. During a guided tour of the facility and an English-language lecture on the topic of ‘Joining Technology’, the students were treated to an informative demonstration of the various joining and coating processes by Prof. Winkler’s team of five, enabling them to gain a better understanding of the theoretical concepts covered in their studies.
The 65 students were visibly impressed by the facilities at SLV Duisburg and were able to supplement their specialist knowledge with practical experience.
