The university, in collaboration with the KDA Duisburg-Niederrhein and the EUROPE DIRECT EU Citizens’ Service in the City of Duisburg, is hosting the event ‘European Climate Change Policy: Necessary Decisions and Strategies at All Political Levels’ on 27 November 2019 at the Kleve Campus.
Following a lengthy internal consultation process, the Federal Government has adopted a ‘Climate Action Programme 2030’; the first draft bills are currently being debated in parliament. At the same time, more than 50 local authorities have now declared a climate emergency, thereby committing themselves to giving climate protection the highest priority in urban development and in decisions taken by political bodies. Public debate also emphasises the responsibility of individual citizens and discusses how to achieve the desired policy outcomes.
Against this backdrop, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, in collaboration with the KDA Duisburg-Niederrhein and the EUROPE DIRECT EU Citizens’ Service in the City of Duisburg, is hosting the event ‘European Climate Protection Policy: Necessary Decisions and Strategies at All Political Levels’ on 27 November 2019 from 6.30 pm at the Kleve Campus of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Marie-Curie-Str. 1, 47533 Kleve, Building 01, Room 01, Ground Floor 005.
The panel discussion will focus in particular on how the various political levels – from the EU down to local authorities – must develop coordinated policy frameworks and infrastructure to ensure that the targets of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change can be achieved. Alongside President Dr Oliver Locker-Grütjen, Professor Dr-Ing Frank Platte, a professor specialising in chemical process engineering at the Faculty of Life Sciences, will also take part in the discussion on behalf of the university.
