Under the theme ‘From regional to global – business and society in the current affairs landscape’, the Wednesday Academy’s new lecture series kicks off the summer term.
The programme for the Wednesday Academy at the Faculty of Society and Economics has been finalised. The theme, ‘From regional to global – economics and society in the current climate’, not only addresses fascinating topics but also reflects the faculty’s thematic and interdisciplinary diversity. Current topics will be clearly presented by speakers from academia and the professional world, examined from a theoretical perspective and discussed in a large group setting.
In light of this year’s European elections, Professor Dr Jakob Lempp, Professor of Political Science specialising in International Relations, will not only explain the complex procedures involved in the election itself, but will also provide an overview of the candidates and their respective manifestos. The European theme will also feature in the lecture by Professor Dr Alexander Brand, Professor of Political Science specialising in International Relations, and research assistant Dr Regina Weber. They will explore the question of whether football is primarily a venue for competition and national demarcation, or whether it actually helps to overcome national borders. The theme of ‘national demarcation’ also features in a lecture on Pegida and right-wing populism. In this, Dr Christoph Meißelbach, a research fellow at the Chair of Political Systems and Comparative Politics, combines personal impressions and experiences with academic analyses of developments on the ground.
Set against an economic and social backdrop are the lectures ‘Cash is King – Germans and their love of cash’, ‘Gender diversity on supervisory boards and corporate success – fundamentals and empirical evidence’, and ‘The Future of Villages: Sustainable Participation of Children and Young People’. The results of the survey conducted as part of the study on ‘Neighbourhood Development in the City of Kleve’ – a collaborative project between Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences and the City of Kleve – will also be presented.
The lecture series is aimed primarily at the general public, but also at students and academic staff at the university. Attendance is free of charge and no prior registration is required. The events take place every Wednesday at 6.00 pm on the Kleve campus, Marie-Curie-Straße 1, in Building 02 (next to the lecture theatre block), Room 02 01 017 (Seminar Room 5).
