Staff are Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences’ most important resource. As an employer, the university is therefore particularly committed to preventing work-related illnesses and identifying them at an early stage.
As part of the Workplace Integration Management scheme (BEM for short), all university staff who have been unable to work due to illness over a prolonged period are offered support to help them return to work. This support is provided through personalised counselling, including discussions with a BEM officer, as well as support from a team chosen by the employees themselves. The aim is, with the active involvement of the employees concerned, to work together to overcome their incapacity for work or service, to prevent a recurrence of such incapacity, and to maintain their employment or service relationship. To this end, on 4 September 2019, the Service Agreement on Workplace Integration Management (DV-BEM) was signed by the President, the Chancellor, the Staff Council for technical and administrative staff, the Staff Council for academic and artistic staff, and the representatives for employees with severe disabilities. This establishes procedural rules for the organisation’s implementation of the Social Code.
