The “Pact for Computer Science” is intended to give companies the opportunity to spark pupils’ interest in digital work processes and their underlying principles, thereby helping to attract skilled workers. The ‘FabStore’ project run by the zdi Centre at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences in Kamp-Lintfort is one of five pilot schemes in North Rhine-Westphalia funded by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
The “FabStore” is an online marketplace for open-source products that can be manufactured using digital fabrication methods.
The project partners are the zdi school laboratory FabLab Kamp-Lintfort, schools, the companies ‘ptc’ and ‘Simac Electronics’, the start-up ‘Fabulaser’, and the Wesel District Education Authority with its team of experts. Together, the partners aim to develop and produce innovative products and explore future marketing opportunities. Users can collaboratively and independently create customised products. “This creates a participatory platform where knowledge, experience and ideas can be exchanged,” says project coordinator Jana-Lina Berkenbusch from Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
