This year’s Wednesday Academy lecture series is themed ‘Genders are people too: New contributions from gender equality policy and gender studies’. The series will be opened by Sylvia Löhrmann, Minister for Schools and Further Education for the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, on 15 April 2015.
Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 8 April 2015: Gender – our social gender – is ever-present. Gender roles shape social life, from the mundane practices of everyday life to the activities of men and women in business and politics. Experts analyse and discuss these practices within the framework of gender theory. In practice, however, there is often a significant gap between theory and practice.
In the current lecture series organised by the Wednesday Academy, the speakers present research findings and practical analyses, bridging the gap between theory and practice. The lecture series covers a wide range of topics, from gender discourses to gender practices. The speakers present gender issues from diverse perspectives and discuss the latest findings in their fields with the participants.
Through this lecture series and its thematic focus, the Faculty of Society and Economics at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences aims to encourage students, lecturers and the interested public to engage in a joint reflection on socially relevant issues relating to ‘gender’. The Faculty cordially invites you to the events, which take place at 6 pm on the Kleve campus, Marie-Curie-Str. 1, Building 1 (Lecture Theatre Centre). Attendance is free of charge and open to all interested parties. No advance registration is required.
