Under the theme “logport IV – From coal storage yard to value-adding logistics”, the next lecture in the Studium Generale series will explore the development and opportunities within the logistics sector. Markus Teuber, Managing Director of LogPort ruhr GmbH Duisburg, will give a talk on Wednesday 14 January 2015 at 6.00 pm at the Kamp-Lintfort campus of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Friedrich-Heinrich-Allee 25, Building 1, 2nd floor, Room 01 02 105. Attendance is free of charge.
Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 9 January 2015: With 2.8 million employees and an annual turnover of just over 230 billion euros, the logistics sector is Germany’s third-largest economic sector – after the automotive industry and the retail sector. Through the planning, management and execution of information and material flows, it facilitates both global and national value-added networks and worldwide trade. Logistics plays a key role in enabling the German economy to operate successfully both at home and abroad. The ‘duisport’ logistics hub acts as a hinterland hub for the seaports and as a gateway for freight traffic to Central Europe, making it an essential part of national and international transport chains.
Using the development of the industrial brownfield sites ‘Krupp Steelworks site in Duisburg-Rheinhausen’ and ‘Berzelius Lead and Zinc Smelter’ into logport I and logport II as examples, the Managing Director of logport ruhr GmbH, Mr Markus Teuber, will use these examples to illustrate the opportunities the logistics sector offers for the development of the former coal transhipment site in Kamp-Lintfort.
Coal mining shaped the town of Kamp-Lintfort for over 100 years. Following the model of logport I, the logport IV logistics site is to be developed on the former coal storage site of the West mine. As part of the logport ruhr joint venture, Duisburger Hafen AG, in collaboration with RAG Montan Immobilien GmbH, is developing former industrial sites from the coal and steel industries for logistics and industry-related logistics. The focus is always on creating added value and jobs for the region.
The lecture forms part of the Studium Generale programme. The lecture series is aimed at the general public, as well as students, lecturers and staff at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, and presents current topics in a way that is relevant to everyday life and informative. The series also offers the opportunity to engage with current issues. “We invite everyone, regardless of age, to attend these fascinating lectures,” says the university’s President, Prof. Dr Marie-Louise Klotz. At the same time, she sees the programme as an opportunity to visit the university’s two campuses and the new buildings on the new campuses.
The Studium Generale lectures at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences are free of charge for members of the public.
