In collaboration with the zdi Centre ‘Kreis Kleve cleverMINT’ at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, a motoring workshop is being held for the first time under the slogan ‘Tinkering, fixing and changing tyres’, aimed specifically at girls in Years 9 and 10.
Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 21 October 2015: This workshop isn’t just about tinkering, making things and carrying out repairs; it also teaches participants how an electric motor works and what future female drivers should bear in mind.
The workshop at the Kleve District Vocational College in Geldern provides both theoretical knowledge of technical principles and practical skills for carrying out minor car repairs independently. Two practical sessions – ‘Building an electric motor’ and ‘Hands-on experience in the garage’ – are designed to encourage independent working. In addition, the students can find out about the many different career opportunities in the automotive industry. At the end, they will receive a certificate of attendance for their future job application portfolio.
Through this programme, the zdi Centre for the District of Kleve, cleverMINT, aims to spark young people’s interest in the STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and to provide a practical programme to complement their everyday school life.
The course takes place on four consecutive Tuesdays, from 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm each day, at the vocational college in Geldern, and begins on 27 October 2015.
