On 8 June 2024, the Faculty of Communication and Environment at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences invited all prospective students and those keen to learn to its Open Day. The varied and informative programme, along with the numerous hands-on activities, attracted a large number of visitors to the campus in Kamp-Lintfort.
Visitors had the opportunity to explore the secrets of the dark web and learn how dangerous cyber-attacks can be fended off and sensitive data protected from cybercriminals. The sessions offering insights into radio astronomy and the ageing simulation proved particularly popular; in the latter, participants – wearing heavy wrist cuffs, with blurred vision and impaired hearing – were able to experience the physical effects of ageing first-hand.
Many prospective students also took the opportunity to find out in detail about the degree programmes available at the university and to put their questions directly to the professors of the individual programmes. The professors were available for discussions throughout the day and offered valuable insights into the practical aspects of the individual programmes and their innovative research and student projects.
The Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Environment, Prof. Dr Klaus Hegemann, emphasised: “The faculty is very pleased with the response. On the day, we were not only able to provide insights into our research, but also to engage in conversation with prospective students. The atmosphere on the Kamp-Lintfort campus is very special, and the wide range of degree programmes on offer has been well received.”
Visitors were delighted by the university’s international yet friendly atmosphere. The performances by the university band, the homemade computer games and, last but not least, the glorious sunshine also contributed to the great atmosphere.
