Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences is once again taking part in this year’s WWF Earth Hour. On 24 March 2018, it will be plunged into darkness for one hour.
Millions of private households, numerous buildings, public spaces and landmarks around the world will switch off their lights on 24 March 2018 from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm local time to jointly draw attention to the growing importance of environmental and climate protection. Earth Hour is now in its twelfth year and was launched by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), one of the largest international nature and environmental organisations.
“Global warming and climate change present us all with major challenges. As a university committed to sustainability, it is therefore important to us not only to be part of this global movement, but also to use it to clearly express our commitment,” said President Dr Heide Naderer, explaining the university’s reasons for taking part in the campaign. Alongside Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Schwanenburg Castle in Kleve, Kleve Collegiate Church, Volksbank Kleverland and The Rilano Hotel Cleve City, amongst others, will also be switching off their lights.
