Studium Generale: Next lecture on 11 December 2018 at the Kleve campus (News)

As part of the continuation of this series of events, a range of talks and a musical performance will explore the significance of water in music, art and religion in greater depth.

Through a performance of the piece ‘Waves’ for narrator, saxophone and electric guitar, pupils from the Kleve District Music School will explore the theme of water through music. The piece will be conducted by the composer Raimund Philippi. Susanne Figner, a research assistant at the Kurhaus Kleve, will speak this evening about water in the visual arts, including Wolfgang Tillmans’ work ‘Wasser & Wein’, which is currently on display at the museum as part of the collection exhibition of the same name. Two students will discuss the role of water in religion. Whilst Hassan Wehbe explains the symbolic and metaphorical significance of water in Islam, Niall Janssen will explore water in the context of the Christian faith.

The event will take place on the Kleve campus of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Marie-Curie-Straße 1, Lecture Theatre Centre, ground floor, Room 01 EG 005 (Lecture Theatre 1).

The lecture is part of the Studium Generale programme and has been designed to make academic research accessible through lectures that are easy for everyone to understand.
