Orchestra seeking new members (Press release)

The orchestra at the Kleve campus of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences is looking for new, enthusiastic musicians for the summer term who would like to be part of a challenging concert programme.

The orchestra, founded last winter term on the Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences campus in Kleve, aims to bring together students and staff from the university with interested instrumentalists from the region through music. New, enthusiastic players are being sought for the summer term – for all string sections, but particularly for oboe, horn, trumpet, trombone and tuba.

The orchestra is conducted by Kilian Konrad. He began his studies at the age of 16 with Professor Abbie Conant and Professor Gerhard Wolf at the Trossingen University of Music, where he also received tuition in wind orchestra conducting from Stefan Halder. As a scholarship holder of the Baden-Württemberg Foundation, Konrad completed a Master’s degree in Symphonic Orchestra Performance at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden under Ingemar Roos and Henrik Schaefer. He supplemented his studies with masterclasses with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. As a trombonist, he has performed on the international stage with, amongst others, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and the renowned Gothenburg Wind Orchestra.

A varied programme is planned for the summer term, which is due to be performed in public on Tuesday 26 June 2018 at the Kleve campus. With a repertoire ranging from classical works by composers such as Paul Hindemith and Francesco Manfredini, through film music – for example from *Jurassic Park* – to musical pieces by Andrew Lloyd Webber, the rehearsal schedule is packed.

Rehearsals will take place on Tuesdays from 10 April 2018, from 6.00 pm to 7.30 pm in Seminar Room 26 on the ground floor of Building 2A at Van-den-Bergh-Straße 2 in Kleve. Two Saturday rehearsals are planned for 5 May and 16 June to allow for intensive group and individual practice within the vocal sections.
