Since 1 September 2018, there has been a Freifunk Wi-Fi network at both campuses of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, which can be used without any access restrictions.
Since 1 September 2018, a Freifunk Wi-Fi network has been available at both campuses of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences in Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort, which can be used without any access restrictions. Freifunk is a non-profit initiative that provides free wireless networks for internet access at no cost. “A total of 16 Freifunk routers are in use across both campuses, each connected to the internet at speeds of up to 100 Mbit/s via a dedicated connection,” explains Marcus Proest, Head of the Information Technology Department at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
The free Wi-Fi is provided by Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences in cooperation with Freifunk Rheinland e. V. (Ruhr region/Niersufer), the NRW Building and Property Management Authority and the State Chancellery of North Rhine-Westphalia. On the Kleve campus, it is available in the library, the canteen area, the foyer of the lecture theatre centre and the administration building. In Kamp-Lintfort, the inner courtyard, the canteen and library, as well as the foyer of the lecture theatre centre, are covered by Freifunk Wi-Fi.
