Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 8 September 2015: With its two campuses in Kleve (Kleve district) and Kamp-Lintfort (Wesel district), Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences offers an excellent opportunity to bring together business partnerships and interdisciplinary projects across district boundaries. “The links between the two campuses of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences and the business community represent a fantastic opportunity for the university, the region and businesses in both districts. Our task is to build a bridge between the two sites and to further expand cooperation between academia and industry in both districts. At both campuses, the university offers excellent teaching, superb facilities, modern technologies, laboratories and technical workshops, which provide companies with a wealth of opportunities for cross-campus projects,” explains Dr Heide Naderer, President of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
For the first time, the District Administrator of Wesel, Dr Ansgar Müller, and the District Administrator of Kleve, Wolfgang Spreen, met for a joint discussion at the Kamp-Lintfort campus of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences. “Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, with its international focus and a student body of over 5,000 from more than 100 nations, offers a range of degree programmes that is as diverse as it is attractive. The university’s appeal also stems from its exceptionally strong network – both beyond district and state borders and within the local business community. Continuing this intensive dialogue benefits both students and local businesses,” says District Administrator Wolfgang Spreen.
“The Faculty of Communication and Environment in Kamp-Lintfort has a broader academic remit than the other three faculties on the Kleve campus. ‘Our main focus is on interdisciplinarity,’ explains Prof. Dr Ingeborg Schramm-Wölk. In 2014, the faculty moved into the new campus and buildings on Friedrich-Heinrich-Allee. “It is impressive to see what Prof. Schramm-Wölk, together with her dedicated team, has achieved in such a short time. Through her energetic commitment and collaborative approach, she has shaped the development of the university and, above all, the Kamp-Lintfort site. As District Administrator of the Wesel district, I am extremely grateful for the new opportunities this has opened up for the town of Kamp-Lintfort, its surrounding area and the young students,” said Dr Ansgar Müller.
During a tour of the campus led by the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr Ingeborg Schramm-Wölk, Prof. Dr Karsten Nebe presented the university’s FabLab and all its possibilities. In this high-tech workshop, school pupils, students, start-up founders, businesses and (in future) members of the public will be introduced to modern manufacturing technology. Spanning over 600 m², the FabLab Kamp-Lintfort at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences offers not only the space but also the necessary machinery to bring one’s own ideas to life – from technical drawings, through the design of the first prototype, right through to the creation of a finished product. The range of possibilities is extensive and includes, for example, 3D printing, milling, laser cutting and engraving, circuit board assembly and microelectronics, and even the processing of textiles, such as conductive fabrics for the production of smart textiles.
A tour of the old Villa Kellermann, which is currently being converted and refurbished by the Studierendenwerk, followed by a group lunch, rounded off the visit.
