On 7 June 2016, the twelfth regional qualifying rounds of this year’s zdi robotics competition took place at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences.

zdi Robot Competition 2016
Ten teams of pupils gathered at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences on 7 June for the twelfth of a total of 15 regional qualifying rounds in this year’s zdi robotics competition. In the Robot Performance category, which is open to teams consisting predominantly of girls, stories based on this year’s competition theme, ‘Pathways to higher education and careers’, were told using LEGO Mindstorms® robots that the teams had built and programmed themselves. The task is to interpret the theme through their own choreography. The teams design a backdrop for their performance and programme a routine for their robots set to music. They also give short presentations on how the story they are telling came about. The two best teams qualified for the major NRW final on 25 June in Mülheim an der Ruhr.
Eleven regional zdi centres organise the competitions independently. These include the zdi Centre in Kamp-Lintfort.
