The series of events at the Kleve campus continues at 7.00 pm with a lecture entitled ‘Growth in the Face of Climate Change – The Effects of Seasonality on Fauna and Flora’.
Each climate zone is characterised by its own flora, fauna and agricultural practices. What happens when the climate changes? Using the phenological garden at Haus Riswick in Kleve as an example, Stephanie Rohde outlines ways of documenting climate change through the seasonal development of plants. Professor Sylvia Moenickes demonstrates how the temperature-dependence of animal development can alter ecosystems, and provides an insight into the scientific methods used to predict such changes. Hubert Kivelitz analyses the potential impacts of climate change on grassland-based forage production and attempts to derive perspectives and adaptation strategies for agriculture from this.
The event will take place at the Kleve campus of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Marie-Curie-Straße 1, Lecture Theatre Centre, ground floor, Room 01 EG 005 (Lecture Theatre 01).
The lecture forms part of the Studium Generale programme and has been designed to make scientific research accessible through lectures that are easy for the general public to understand. The lecture programme is aimed at members of the public, students, school pupils and anyone in the region with an interest in science, as well as lecturers and staff at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, with a focus on general, universal education. The lecture series also provides a platform for lively exchange and discussion on current issues.
