On 9 June, an open day will be held at the Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort campuses on the theme of ‘All about sustainability’, featuring a varied programme of events. The event in Kleve will also be accompanied by a Street Food Festival.
It’s that time of year again – Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences is opening its doors: on 9 June, from 11.00 am to 4.00 pm, there will be a wide range of activities taking place on the Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort campuses. Local residents, prospective students, current students, alumni and business representatives are invited to explore both campuses. This offers a great opportunity to take a look behind the scenes at the university, be guided through lecture theatres, laboratories and libraries, take part in the numerous hands-on activities and find out about the university’s projects and degree programmes. Visitors will also have the chance to chat with lecturers, students and staff.
This year’s programme centres on the theme of ‘sustainability’. ‘As the first Fairtrade University in North Rhine-Westphalia, this is important to us in the context of a university committed to sustainability. But also given that we have enshrined a comprehensive understanding of sustainability, complete with targets, in our university development plan,” said Dr Heide Naderer, President of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, commenting on the event’s theme. The university will showcase its faculties, its range of degree programmes and its research. Fascinating talks and discussions, as well as entertaining demonstrations and presentations on sustainability-related topics within the degree programmes and projects, will offer insightful perspectives. For the little ones, there will be engaging experiments and excursions. Musical entertainment and refreshments will also be provided. Exciting lecture series at the Kamp-Lintfort campus
In Kamp-Lintfort, Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences invites you on a journey through time as part of a series of lectures. The series focuses on the sustainable transformation of the town of Kamp-Lintfort – from its mining heritage through to the university and the 2020 State Garden Show. The following lectures, followed by a discussion session, will take place in Building 1, Room 01 00 115 (Audimax):
‘A mining region changes its face’ (12.00 pm) – Presented by Norbert Ballhaus from the Fördergemeinschaft für Bergmannstradition – Linker Niederrhein – e.V., former mayor
“Structural Change in Kamp-Lintfort – From a Mining Town to a University Centre” (1.00 pm) – Speaker: Dieter Tenhaeff from the Office for Economic Development and City Marketing of the City of Kamp-Lintfort.
“Land-use planning as a building block of sustainable urban development in Kamp-Lintfort” (2.00 pm) – Speaker: Dr Daniela Lud, Professor of Environmental Assessment and Remediation at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
“FabLab goes Green: Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences at the 2020 State Garden Show” (3.00 pm) – Speaker: Dr Kai Tiedemann, Professor of Ecology and the Environment at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
Schwanenritter Race on the Spoy Canal
Twelve teams will compete against each other in the Schwanenritter Race on the Spoy Canal. They must build their own boats from specified materials within a set time, which they will then use to race from the starting point to the finish line. The race starts at 2.00 pm. The best teams will receive prizes. Participants in the race must register in advance. The first twelve registrations will be accepted.
Street Food Festival on the Kleve Campus
The Street Food Festival will take place on 9 and 10 June at the Kleve Campus. A festival entirely dedicated to international culinary delights. Whether food trucks, professional chefs or passionate home cooks – this is where everyone who has something special to offer in the kitchen comes together. Their dishes reflect the diversity of the world’s many different food cultures. You can feast non-stop on Saturday from 12:00 to 22:00 and on Sunday from 12:00 to 20:00.
