Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences was awarded the 2020 ‘Premium-D-A-CH’ Alumni Prize for the exemplary design of its international alumni programme. In its statement, the jury noted that Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences demonstrates “a broad international focus that is coherently integrated into the university’s strategic objectives.”
In order to stay in touch with former students, the university established an alumni network in 2017. The aim of the alumni programme is to maintain links with both national and international alumni. The aim is to foster ties with both alumni who have remained in the region and those who have moved abroad. This benefits not only the former students, but also the university and its student body. Benefits include, for example, the transfer of knowledge to national and international practice, the development of existing or new degree programmes, and the recruitment of new students.
This thesis has now been recognised by the jury, which this year comprised representatives from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK), the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft, the association alumni-clubs.net e. V. and ZEIT-Verlag. The prizes, each worth 5,000 euros, were awarded online on 14 September by alumni-clubs.net e. V.
Alumni-clubs.net e. V. is the umbrella organisation for alumni organisations in German-speaking countries and represents universities, alumni associations, non-university research institutions, university support organisations and university-related institutions. Currently, more than 300 universities and alumni organisations are members of the umbrella organisation.
