The Career Service team across the faculties at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences is kicking off the 2017 summer semester with a host of activities: the faculties are welcoming three new colleagues, who will strengthen the advisory services on offer and provide students with even more intensive support as they prepare to enter the world of work. In addition to career counselling, the Career Service is, as always, offering an extensive programme of additional activities throughout the semester.
The decentralised Career Service team has been complete since April 2017: Elena Buksmann will be supporting students at the Faculty of Technology and Bionics, whilst Maria Hinckers at the Faculty of Life Sciences and Carina Terlinden at the Faculty of Communication and Environment will be taking on a dual role as Career Service officers and study counsellors. The Faculty of Society and Economics will continue to be supported by Imke Hans.
Students in the individual faculties have very specific advisory needs; for example, the potential work placements and subsequent career paths for graduates in the fields of sustainable agriculture, engineering or early years education vary considerably. At the same time, there is a particularly high demand for information amongst international students regarding opportunities to enter the German labour market and successful application strategies.
“To meet this high demand for advice and to provide our students with even more intensive and tailored support, each faculty will now be supported by a Career Service officer,” explains Imke Hans, who has been working for over two years as a research assistant in Career Service and Employability for the Faculty of Society and Economics at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. “We are therefore delighted to be starting the summer semester and our current programme together as a decentralised team of four.”
The Career Service’s programme is once again very extensive: as early as the second week of the semester, information evenings will begin for all interested students at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences on topics such as ‘Strategic Job Search’ and ‘Applying for Jobs in Germany’. Career-related workshops, for example on ‘Assessment Centre Training’ or ‘Getting that Job in Germany’, are also offered as part of the programme run by the Centre for Quality Improvement in Studies and Teaching. The Faculty of Society and Economics is also organising exciting Career Talks again this semester, which are open to anyone interested.
