Additive manufacturing processes, also known as 3D printing, are increasingly becoming the focus of industrial applications and represent significant potential for small and medium-sized enterprises in Germany. To this end, the Lower Rhine 3D Competence Centre at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences is promoting the transfer of knowledge, innovation and technology between the research sector and industry.
Through a variety of event formats tailored to different target audiences, the possibilities offered by additive manufacturing processes are showcased, new technological developments are presented, and their economic and social relevance is discussed.
To this end, the FabTalks lecture series, amongst other initiatives, has been launched, in which international guest speakers present particularly innovative aspects of digital fabrication to a wider audience. The 3D Competence Centre invites you to the launch event on 6 November 2017 at 6.00 pm.
Tomás Diez, co-founder of FabLab (short for ‘fabrication laboratory’) Barcelona at the Institute for Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC), Director of the Fab City Research Laboratory and Director of the Master’s in Design for Emergent Futures at the IAAC, will give a presentation in English on the topic ‘Redesigning our future – The Fab City Collective Plan for the Next 40 Years’. The event will take place on the Kamp-Lintfort campus of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Friedrich-Heinrich-Allee 25, in Building 1, Audimax, Room 01 00 115.
In his lecture, Tomás Diez will present the work of the FabCity Collective and report on initial experiences and successes in Barcelona. This international consortium of designers and so-called ‘makers’ – representatives of a ‘do-it-yourself’ culture aiming to overcome technical challenges using their own resources – is seeking new models for urban living spaces. The primary focus is on the question of how, in the face of growing consumption, unique, alternative and reimagined production strategies can be developed for a sustainable future.
Following the 45-minute talk, there will be an opportunity for discussion and a tour of the FabLab Kamp-Lintfort.
