Scholarship dinner at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences (press release)

Thanks to the commitment of businesses and private individuals in the Lower Rhine region, high-achieving students at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences will once again be able to receive a Germany Scholarship in the 2017/2018 academic year. A total of 78 students will benefit from this this time – the highest number in the history of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences. To thank the scholarship sponsors for their support, the university’s three friends’ associations, together with Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, hosted a scholarship dinner in the canteen on the Kleve campus.

Stefan Finke, Managing Director of the Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences Support Association (Förderverein Hochschule Rhein-Waal e.V.), expressed his thanks to the sponsors on behalf of the organisers: “We are delighted by the exceptional commitment shown by the regional business community. It demonstrates the strong ties between local businesses and Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, and shows us just how keen companies are to engage with our students and that there are excellent career prospects in the region.”

Through the scholarship dinner, the three Friends’ Associations, together with Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, are expressing their gratitude for the commitment of the scholarship donors, which enables a total of 78 students to be supported. In addition to financial support, Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences and the supporting associations attach particular importance to strengthening the ties between the sponsors and their scholarship recipients as potential future talent for the region. “We are proud of your achievements to date and join you in celebrating today’s award and financial support,” said Dr Heide Naderer, President of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, in her address to the students.

During a festive buffet, scholarship donors and recipients had the opportunity to get to know one another. They were also able to engage in interesting discussions with representatives from the business community in attendance, as well as with members of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, on topics such as their studies, career aspirations and professional ambitions, and to forge new contacts with companies in the Lower Rhine region. During a formal certificate presentation ceremony in the Audimax, they were honoured by the university management for their outstanding achievements. Dr Naderer presented them with a certificate from the Federal Minister of Education, Prof. Dr Johanna Wanka.

Students with very good academic results can apply for a Germany Scholarship, regardless of their parents’ income. The monthly grant of 150 euros, which is raised by Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, the university’s support associations, private sponsors, companies or institutions, is then matched by the federal government. In total, 120,600 euros were donated by private scholarship providers for the funding period in the 2017/2018 academic year. In this way, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences is able to award a total of 241,200 euros in scholarship funds to 78 of its best students.

Special thanks go to all the scholarship donors:
