Students on the Bachelor’s degree programme in ‘Information and Communication Design’ will be exhibiting their work and visual installations in Düsseldorf from 18 to 20 March 2016.
Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 17 March 2016: The work produced by first-year students over the last two winter semesters as part of the ‘Experimental Design’ course, led by Katharina Drasdo, primarily addresses the following questions: How can we redefine experimental design in the age of virtual reality? Is it possible, as a designer working digitally, to create analogue designs? And can we leave the design process to chance? The creative responses to these questions leave their mark, shaping each individual’s design in a lasting way: Flying cats on synthesisers in space, glitches, and the visual erasure and destruction of content are central themes of the exhibited works. Finding more questions than answers and refusing to be subjugated by any technology is the guiding principle behind the works on display in the exhibition: ‘Anatal and Digilog’. Head of Programme Prof. Christoph Zielke is delighted: “The enthusiasm with which our students experiment with contemporary themes and seek out new forms of expression as early as their first semester would bring a smile even to ‘Grumpy Cat’s’ face.”
The exhibition design brings the works to life through a projector installation, digital image stations and metre-high panels which, like a printed blog, display fragments of individual students’ designs. The visual presentation is complemented by deep house and tech house music by the musician Kasymir.
The exhibition opens on 18 March 2016 at 8 pm at W57, Worringer Straße 57, 40210 Düsseldorf. Art lovers can view the resulting works and installations from 19 to 20 March 2016, between 11 am and 7 pm.
