Lecture as part of the Studium Generale programme on 21 June 2016 at the Kleve campus on the topic of "Prospects for cross-border local public transport between Germany and the Netherlands"
Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 16 June 2016: Once again, there have been calls to reopen a railway line between Kleve and Nijmegen. Maurice Niesten, chairman of the Association for Innovative Euregional Transport (Vereniging van Innovatief Euregionaal Vervoer, VIEV), has succeeded in winning over the transport company ‘Arriva’ to this project, and they are now investigating the possibilities of potentially reopening this railway line.
Under the slogan ‘Urban centres the size of Kleve and Nijmegen require a rail link: Keizerlijn/Kaiserlinie 2017–2020’, Maurice Niesten outlines the prospects and possibilities for cross-border public transport between Germany and the Netherlands in his lecture.
The lecture forms part of the Studium Generale programme. The lecture series is aimed at the general public, as well as students, lecturers and staff at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, and presents current topics in a way that is relevant to everyday life and informative. The series also offers the opportunity to engage with current issues. “We invite everyone, regardless of age, to attend these fascinating lectures,” says the university’s President, Dr Heide Naderer. She also sees the programme as an opportunity to get to know the university’s two campuses.
Attendance at the Studium Generale lectures at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences is free of charge for all members of the public.
