Captured through the eyes of students – these are the photographs in the exhibition “Perspectives – through students’ eyes”. They showcase the students’ photographic perspectives on their university, their student life, their home region in the Lower Rhine and their countries of origin. The exhibition opens on 23 May in Building 08 on the Kleve campus.
A total of 10 students from the Faculty of Technology and Bionics at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences are each presenting two to three photographs. The exhibition offers visitors a wide variety of perspectives and allows them to see that budding engineers do not merely view their surroundings through a technical lens.
The idea for the exhibition arose from a happy coincidence: the Faculty began its search for a student assistant in photography by issuing a call for applications accompanied by photographs. Not only was the response far greater than expected, but it also demonstrated that there are numerous hidden photographic talents amongst the students.
The photographs selected for the exhibition not only showcase the students’ talent but also reflect their individual perspectives on the world. For example, the university campus and the Lower Rhine region are depicted in a variety of ways and from different angles. The photographs featuring scenes from abroad provide an intriguing contrast – around 80 per cent of the faculty’s students come from outside the European Union. And so, alongside the familiar buildings on the Spoy Canal, the exhibition also features Cambodian puppeteers, an Indian temple and a fishing boat in Bangladesh.
The exhibition will be opened in the presence of Dean Professor Dr.-Ing. Dirk Nissing and the students on Thursday, 23 May 2019, at 4.00 pm, at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Marie-Curie-Straße 1, Building 08 (foyer). The photographs will be on display until 30 May 2019 during the university’s opening hours. The exhibition will also be open on Open Day on 25 May 2019. Admission is free.
