Attend the MINT Girls’ Summer School for free during the last week of the holidays. This opportunity is available at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences. There are still places available for girls aged 16 and over who are interested in technical and scientific subjects and the relevant degree programmes. From 20 to 24 August 2018, from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm each day, curious young people can get a taste of the degree programmes offered by the Faculty of Technology and Bionics at the Kleve campus.
To this end, numerous workshops and lectures are held in collaboration with the zdi Centre in the Kleve district. Lecturers teach as part of a specially curated programme and provide insights into machinery, robotics, 3D printing and much more.
For example, in the electrical engineering workshop ‘Microcontroller Alarm System’, participants learn how to programme a microcontroller using the ‘C’ programming language and discover how to connect it to sensors and actuators. Using microcontrollers, they develop a small alarm system which, for example, can monitor a window and trigger an audible alarm. In this way, knowledge of electrical circuits and Linux is also imparted.
In the ‘3D Modelling and 3D Printing’ workshop, pupils learn the entire process from creating a 3D model to 3D printing. Various 3D printing processes are explained, along with their specific features and potential in an industrial context. The workshop will also demonstrate how the widely used 3D CAD system (CAD = Computer-Aided Design) is employed in the design process to create virtual three-dimensional objects. To this end, participants will apply the principle of computer-aided part modelling themselves, using a simple product as an example. They will have the opportunity to scan an object using a 3D laser scanner.
