Thanks to the commitment of regional businesses, associations and foundations, high-achieving students at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences can once again receive support in the form of a Germany Scholarship during the 2021/2022 academic year. This time, a total of 61 students were delighted to receive the award.
To thank the scholarship sponsors for their commitment, the university’s three Friends’ Associations, together with Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, hosted a scholarship dinner in the canteen on the Kleve campus. In addition to the financial aspect, Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences and the support associations attach particular importance to strengthening the ties between the sponsors and their scholarship holders, who represent potential future talent for the region.
Professor Dr.-Ing. Peter Kisters, Vice-President for Research, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer, welcomed those present: “Through the Germany Scholarship, we – students, companies, associations and clubs – achieve results together when we all make a small contribution that has a major impact and shapes our future,” emphasised Kisters. He thanked the scholarship donors for their commitment and presented them with certificates.
At a festive ‘flying buffet’ in the canteen, sponsors and scholarship recipients had the opportunity to get to know one another. They were also able to have interesting conversations with representatives of the regional business community and members of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences about their studies, career aspirations and professional goals, whilst establishing new contacts with the companies.
Students with excellent academic results can apply for a Germany Scholarship, regardless of their parents’ income. The monthly grant of 150 euros, which Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences raises from support associations, private sponsors, companies or institutions, is then matched by the federal government.
In addition to financial support, the scholarship offers non-material support through an accompanying programme, which, in the view of the regional business community, is of particular benefit to all parties. On the one hand, this helps to counteract the shortage of skilled workers in the region; on the other, it gives students the chance to prove themselves in the labour market.
