As part of the Children’s University, the third lecture in the run-up to Christmas will focus on the topic ‘Where is the Star of Bethlehem? – A journey (through time) through the universe with comets and supernovae’.
Inextricably linked to Christmas is the legendary story of the Three Wise Men, who set out to find the newborn Christ Child. They were guided by the Star of Bethlehem – but what exactly was this mysterious celestial object? Was it really a star? But if so, why can’t we see it any more? A comet? Or perhaps a supernova? Professor Dr Alexander Struck, Professor of Theoretical Physics, and the university’s Astronomy Club will explore these questions together with the young audience. In the process, the young students will learn which celestial bodies, apart from our Earth, are found in the solar system and will ‘explore’ – through exciting experiments – how these move across the sky and what else is happening in the universe.
The event will take place on 5 December 2018 from 5.15 pm to 6.00 pm at the Kleve campus of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Marie-Curie-Straße 1, 47533 Kleve, in the Lecture Theatre Centre, Building 01, ground floor, Audimax. Admission is free and no registration is required.
