Tackling the skills shortage with information stands and company profiles

Kleve District – Business leaders across the country are already voicing concerns about the shortage of skilled workers. This is also the case in the Lower Rhine region. Against this backdrop, Peter Wack, Chair of the Friends of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences – Cleve Campus e.V., believes it is only natural to highlight the advantages of the region and its businesses to students. The Friends’ Association is currently writing to employers in the region, encouraging them to showcase their companies, opportunities for work placements, project work or bachelor’s theses, as well as career prospects, during a half-day event at the lecture theatre centre of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences in Kleve. “We would like to offer companies a platform on which they can spark interest in ‘life after graduation’ amongst prospective graduates,” said Peter Wack.

‘Students Meet Business’ is the title of the event, which will last just over three hours and take place on Wednesday 11 May, between 3 pm and 6 pm in the Audimax.

This is a concept with a proven track record of success, which in the past has also focused on bringing employers and prospective graduates together in a small, trade-fair-style event.

What’s new is that promotional films from over 20 companies in the Kleve district will also be shown as part of this event. “With this part of the programme, we aim to highlight the appeal of our region and its companies to students. Together with the university, we all hope that graduates who do not come from our region will find career prospects and a home here. We see it as our duty to play a part in this. We are therefore all the more grateful to the savings banks and cooperative banks in the Kleve district for their financial support of this part of the programme,” said Hans-Josef Kuypers on behalf of the Kleve District Economic Development Agency.
