A student exhibition featuring pictures, texts and a collection of quotations showcases people’s lives and the various facets of Indonesia; it will be on display at the gallery in the DreiGiebelHaus until 23 March.
The photography exhibition “Paradise People – Life between palm trees and mountains of rubbish”, organised by students Mara Heemskerk and Lena Lengner from the Bachelor’s degree programme in Information and Communication Design, will open on 10 February 2019 at 11.00 am. Thomas Görtz – Mayor of Xanten – will officially welcome the guests. The student exhibition will be on display until 23 March 2019 at the gallery in the DreiGiebelHaus (Kapitel 18, 46509 Xanten).
As the result of a design project in Indonesia, to which both students devoted themselves as part of their Bachelor’s thesis, over 12,000 photographs were taken, videos filmed and interviews conducted in November 2018, which have now been organised into a unique exhibition. At the same time, the designers are also presenting their accompanying photobook. The images, texts and collected quotes depict people’s lives and the various facets of this supposedly paradisiacal holiday destination, thereby demonstrating that emerging economies – such as Indonesia – in particular are struggling especially hard with the global waste problem.
